BRIEF HISTORY OF THE FACULTY
The establishment of the faculty of Agriculture was approved by the Senate of the University of Abuja on 11th October, 2004. The Faculty comprises of the Departments of Agricultural Economics and Extension; Animal Science; Crop Science; Soil Science; Food and Nutrition Science; and Water Resources, Aquaculture and Fisheries.
The Faculty has programs for the award of three degrees, namely Bachelor of Agriculture, Bachelor of Agriculture (Food Science and Nutrition) and Bachelor of Agriculture (Water Resources, Aquaculture and Fisheries). The first set of students was admitted to read Bachelor or of Agriculture degree in the 2005/2006 session. Admission into the other two degrees will be done in due course.
VISION OF THE FACULTY
To promote training in appropriate sustainable agricultural production and marketing through demand driven and globally competitive research and development taking into cognizance the agricultural policies and programmes of the country and in line with best practices internationally.
MISSION OF THE FACULTY
The programme of the Faculty shall produce graduates that are adequately equipped with comprehensive theoretical knowledge and practical skills for engaging in appropriate economic agricultural production, marketing, research and development, to produce high level job creators in the agricultural sector, and the products to be arrow-heads in the implementation of the various agricultural development programmes in the country both in the public and the private sectors.
PHILOSOPHY OF THE FACULTY
Production of graduates that are adequately equipped with the comprehensive theoretical knowledge and practical skills required for engaging in productive and economic agricultural production.
OBJECTIVES OF THE FACULTY
- To produce graduate farmers geared towards self-employment
- To produce graduates with sufficient technical, productive and entrepreneurship skills who will be involved in production, research and entrepreneurship in any aspect of agriculture and other related disciplines.
- To produce graduate farmers that are relevant to themselves, the industry and society and who can contribute effectively to national development goals in Agriculture.
